DYO Concerto Competition

Concerto Competition:  The objectives of a concerto competition are to provide ‘real life’ competition, adjudication, and soloing experience. Aspiring musicians must become comfortable performing solos in public, aim for high musicianship, and develop a strong self-confidence. Concerto competitions are an invaluable opportunity for young musicians to refine their musical skills and to become self-confident, mature individuals. With theses things in mind, the competition is open to all members, from the junior to senior levels. Players compete within their orchestral division for the opportunity to perform a movement, or an entire work, as a soloist with one of the orchestras. The competition format is similar to a music festival: contestants perform their selection in its entirety for an independent adjudicator, with piano accompaniment; other contestants and an audience are allowed to attend the performances; a written evaluation is given to each contestant; the adjudicator determines the winners.

The competition takes place in the spring. Winners perform the following season. The Concerto Competition and DSS Awards are complimentary activities. Members are encouraged to participate in both.
